Shanghai Dumpling House, Tattersalls Lane just off Chinatown.
Best food, super cheap, beers are like $4 and a plate of 20 dumplings is about $5-$6. Grab a group of mates and head there before you go out in the city.
Warning: you may have to wait a little while for a table (don't worry they get you in as soon as you can) and the waiters are fucking crazy.

It's fun to experience it but the dumplings aren't that good. For better dumplings, you should try North East China Family Traditional Dumplings (Flinders Lane, just past Elizabeth St). The vegematarian ones are awesome!
Prolly do both. Shanghai is an experience, but NECHTD is quality.
nina, while I love Shanghai, I wouldn't advise you to go there as vegetarian shit is small to nil. I however am going to go there in September and scoff so fucking many pork/prawn dumplings.
